Who needs an SSL?

Anyone doing business online should be using an SSL Certificate on their website to protect customer data from hackers and to elevate their brand image. They are typically found on any site where payments are taken or personal information is requested i.e login details, online banking, sending messages.

Which SSL Certificate would best suit me?

Domain (DV) SSL

Best suited to start-up businesses or personal users with a small yet growing online presence requiring basic level security. Activities may include making sales online, collecting personal data such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses or login details.

Wildcard SSL

If you require scalability and flexibility for future online operations or have an evolving website where multiple subdomains may need securing.

Extended Validation SSL (EV SSL)

Suitable for large, well established businesses with an online presence which requires the highest level of online security to ensure peace of mind for the customers visiting the site.

What information will I need to order an SSL?

For a domain validated/wildcard SSL we’ll need your registration address and telephone number, this can be provided when placing your order. For an EV SSL we’ll need some more in depth information. A member of our provisioning team will contact you to discuss the next steps once your order has been received.

How long will it take to provision an SSL?

This can vary but generally takes 3-5 working days. EV certificates typically take a little longer due to the work involved before fulfilment and the level of security this type of SSL offers.

How do I receive my SSL once an order has been placed?

Your SSL will be available on your account once it is ready.

Is it true that SSL's can help boost Google search rankings?

Yes – marginally at the moment but hopefully on course to improve with time according to Google: “We’ve seen positive results, so we’re starting to use HTTPS as a ranking signal. For now it’s only a very lightweight signal – affecting fewer than 1% of global queries, and carrying less weight than other signals such as high-quality content – while we give webmasters time to switch to HTTPS. But over time, we may decide to strengthen it, because we’d like to encourage all website owners to switch from HTTP to HTTPS to keep everyone safe on the web.”

What level of encryption do our SSL Certificates provide?

Our certificates provides an industry standard of 2048 bit digital signatures.

Can I use an SSL supplied by you on a third party hosting package?

No, an SSL supplied by us can only be used on a hosting package we provide.

Can I use a third party SSL supplied on a third party hosting package?

No, only an SSL supplied by us can be used on the hosting packages we provide.

How do you know if a site is secure?

  • The address (URL) will be displayed as ‘https’ rather than ‘http’ – the ‘S’ stands for ‘secure’
  • Your browser displays a closed padlock
  • A Secure Site Seal will be visible on the website
  • Green colour in the address bar of the browser

What is a Wildcard SSL?

A Wildcard SSL Certificate secures your domain name (example.co.uk) as well as an unlimited number of subdomains (“shop.example.co.uk, members.example.co.uk, mail.example.co.uk and so on).

Do I need to tell the Sales Team which subdomains I want including with the Wildcard SSL?

No, the order will be placed with an asterisk as the common/secure name, (e.g.*.domain.co.uk), which means that any subdomain you create on the main domain name will automatically be linked to the Wildcard SSL.
